Obituary

Ellen Marie Boggs, 87, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away at home on January 13, 2021. Ellen was born May 1, 1933 in Mulliken, Michigan to Mae Glenna Lout and Ralph Tanner, joining her older sister, Ruth. The family moved to Ohio soon after her birth, where she spent most of her childhood around the farms of Hancock County. Ellen moved to Southeast Kentucky for her senior year of high school, graduating in 1951 from Mt Carmel High School, near Jackson, in Breathitt County, Kentucky. Ellen attended Kentucky Mountain Bible College where she obtained an AA in Christian Education and met and married Calvin Randles Boggs shortly after graduating in 1954. The couple spent time pastoring a small church in the area before moving to Wilmore, Kentucky, where Ellen graduated with her Bachelor's degree from Asbury College in 1960. The couple returned to Breathitt County, where Ellen taught art and worked in the the college office for 35 years. The couple retired in 1995 and moved to Arizona to be near their daughter and granddaughter, where they remained involved in the Glendale Nazarene Church until their respective deaths. Ellen was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Tanner, her son, Christopher Alan Boggs, in 1976, her mother, Mae Glenna Marquet, her husband, Calvin Randles Boggs, her sister, Ruth Hendricks, and other extended family. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Vicky Snyder of Peoria, AZ, one granddaughter, Lindsay Lorimor, also of Peoria, AZ, and a host of extended family and friends. Ellen was a talented artist using various mediums, including detailed woodburning, lettering, chalk drawing, and painting. She never hesitated to take on a project to serve others, particularly if it glorified God. She created her own Christmas cards for over 50 years, printing an original design, then coloring each one by hand. She also wrote original poems and faith-based dramatizations, directed school plays, and sang alongside her husband in ministry. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and appreciated her talent and her devotion to God.
